Private Tuition – Groups

Here at the Edinburgh School Of Icon Painting, we honour classical techniques whilst still embracing experimentation. Tradition is dynamic, something that can move and change. We welcome your unique ideas and any contemporary approaches you may have to bring.

In between learning painting skills, playing with technique and colour, and connecting with the artistic collective, you’ll take a lunch break to further bond with your group. Before continuing on the day with more icon painting. 

All abilities and religious beliefs/no beliefs are welcome and no experience is required.

What you’ll learn

You will learn the basics of the technique and traditional styles of icon painting. Which includes:

• Composition skills used in icon painting.
• The Byzantine and Russian styles of the art form.
• How to prepare egg yolk binding medium.
• Learning how to make paints from dry pigments.
• How to work with thin layers.
• Egg tempera brushwork.
• Dry brushwork.

What you’ll get

All materials and equipment needed to paint an icon on a wood panel to take home.

What to bring

Lunch is not provided so please bring any food or snacks with you.
